Google's cultural Institute has unveiled a new project which allow people to view art up close - down the the brushstroke close. The "Art Camera" is a custom-built, robotic camera capable of capturing gigapixel images quickly using both a laser and sonar system.
It takes approximately 30 minutes to capture a work of art. There are approximately 1000 images on display already on the Google Cultural Institute's website including Pissarro, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Monet.
The fleet of cameras are being loaned out to museums for free at this time.
