sobey photography award finalist

october 12, 2011

it's a thrilling week in the art world. While the dulwich gallery is giving a nod to the "old masters" of canadian art and the frieze art fair is keeping things cool in london, the art gallery of nova scotia is celebrating our homegrown talent in canadian art. the winner of the sobey art award, canada’s pre-eminent award for contemporary canadian art, will be announced at the gallery in halifax tomorrow and we couldn't be more excited!

Adam Gopnik will host this year’s Sobey Art Award ceremony - a not-to-be-missed gala event. This annual prize is given to an artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.

a total of $70,000 in prize money is awarded annually; $50,000 to the winner and $5,000 to the other four finalists.

the art gallery of nova scotia accepts nominations for the sobey art award, for each of the five regions, from recognized agents and institutions. it's kind of a big deal...

It's going to be very difficult to pick a winner this year since the applicants are so diverse and each show their own strengths. from electromagnetics to photography, these artists have go it covered.
