roselina hung, Self-portrait in the studio
We would like to give a huge shout out and big congratulations to our very own Roselina hung for being one of 30 finalists still in the running for the kingston prize!
the national portrait competition award will be given out on November 10, 2011, at the gala preview at the royal ontario museum in toronto.
born and raised in Vancouver, bc roselina has studied and exhibited on a global scale.
Merete had the fortune to work with Roselina in a group show at "on the rise artist collective, and has this to say, "it doesn't surprise me in the least that roselina was made a finalist for the kingston prize competition. she's ridiculously talented not only technically speaking, but also with respect to her approach and ideas."
her above work, "Coda: Self-portrait in the studio," will be traveling with the exhibition later this year and into 2012 at the Firehall Theatre (Gananoque, Ontario), Institute for Contemporary Culture, Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, Ontario), and Galerie d’art Desjardins (Drummondville, Quebec).

"i am interested in examining society’s visualization and understanding of memories and histories through images, including ideas of nostalgia, and the creation of a hyper-reality, wherein accepting the simulation as authentic; the belief in the fake supersedes the notion of the real in importance."
