Toronto, Ontario born/based advisor in Tourism & Hospitality, Penn was raised in many parts of Canada.
First camera was a Brownie, next a Pentax S1a. A Charter student at Simon Fraser University (he took a film course with the legendary Stan Fox), he successfully pursued a career as a Hotelier with Hilton International and Interstate Hotels (30+ years) which gave him opportunities to see many different parts of the World.
To better understand countries, clients - satisfy his curiosity - a Pentax Super Program became the camera of choice - key - its versatile 70 - 210 mm lens. Gradually contacts, art dealers and friends encouraged him to share his images. Initially cards were just sent to close friends. During this time some images were used in Hotel brochures, promotional materials. Photo Art Limn (photography = art, its use = illustration) became a pseudonym to separate Photography from his hotel persona.
In 2002 Penn became a private advisor to destination marketing companies, hotels, and tour operators - more opportunities to travel allowed him to further develop not only his "eye", but a catalogue of images - over 25 were shared with tour operators selling Canada.
In 2006, he took the leap to digital - a Fuji FinePix Z1- to complement the film cameras (Pentax and Nikon).
In 2012 Penn has focused on developing an even greater understanding of how, why people travel; plus what makes the "wow" factor people like in images.
